And copyrightable material must be on a tangible medium to qualify. How do original, artistic, authored cyber-creations qualify for copyright protection?
And how do you prove the creation date was before other peoples copies? Most blog sites allow you to alter the post date.
Copyright law is completely medium agnostic. An original, creative work is automatically copyrighted as soon as it is in “fixed form”. That includes saved on a web server. All that is required is that it be somehow readable by human or machine. Most Yahoo Answer questions or answers would be insufficiently creative or original to be copyrightable. Many Blog Posts are, however. The Copyright Office has a circular on registering online works, linked below.
As for proof of creation date, any cyber publication would obviously be difficult to prove, which is why registration is always recommended.
